Located in eastern Romania, 38 miles from Iasi and 171 miles from Bucahrest, Vaslui is the capital city of the county with the same name, a county at the border with Moldavia Republic.

The local topography is shaped by three rivers that cross the city, cutting their valleys through a low hills area. The valleys are not very deep, with several marshes and are surrounded by Morii Hills, Chitoc Hills and Brodoc Hills, formation of low altitude and round tops. These hills have an important quantity of clay in their substratum therefore when humidity increases the land slips and generates numerous damages.
The local climate is temperate continental with high and sudden variations in temperature and precipitation throughout the four seasons. Summers are characterized by high temperatures and scarce precipitations with frequent draught periods, strongly affecting crops. Winters in Vaslui are harsh with lots of snow and low temperatures, cold days lasting sometimes until April. Winds are also very present here usually bringing cold air from east and north.
The hydrographic network in Vaslui is well represented by the Rivers Barlad, Vaslui and Delea. All of them have permanent water flows with small fluctuations according to season.

Flora and fauna in Vaslui are characteristic for the steppe and silvosteppe area in which the city is located. Therefore we can find here different species of oaks, aquatic species in the wetlands, maple trees and more. Fauna is represented by species of rodents, pheasants, partridge and numerous types of fish in the local waters.

The city numbered about 70.000 inhabitants at the last census dated 2002 and is decreasing. Most residents are Romanians followed by small numbers of Gypsies, Russians and Hungarians. The main religion is Christian Orthodox followed by Roman Catholic, Pentecostal and Old Rite Orthodox.
