Sibiu Nightlife, Romania
A splendidly restored medieval city in the heart of Transylvania, Sibiu represents a major touristic attraction in Romania, not only for its historical landmarks, but also for is thriving cultural life and beautiful nature. As for Sibiu nightlife, it’s more about traditional restaurants, bohemian cafes and noisy taverns, and less about trendy clubs and DJ parties.
Sibiu Nightlife – Restaurants
Although it’s a favorite attraction among foreign tourists, Sibiu is a little cheaper than other Romanian cities like Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest or Timisoara. You’ll find some pretty decent restaurants in the most central locations, as well as numerous fast-foods and pizzerias. Most restaurants located in the historic centre are specialized in traditional Romanian and German food, but they also serve some international dishes.
Restaurant Hermanstadt, Restaurant Crown, Restaurant Orphee, Restaurant La Turn, Butoiul de Aur or Winekeller vine cellar fall into this category. Sibiu has a famous recreational area (Dumbrava Park) and open air museum (ASTRA) at the city’s outskirts, where you can enjoy a hearty meal in the unique decorum of Restaurant Palace Dumbrava, Restaurant Rustic, or Carciuma din Batrani. The best fast-food is served in places like Allegria, Big Mama, Greek Gyros and Sandwicherie.
Sibiu Nightlife – Bars and Clubs
Sibiu is a small and safe city, but if you don’t want to adventure outside the old city walls, it’s ok, because most cafes and bars can be found here, anyway. So are City Café, Melange Café, Down Town, Jazzy Bar, Centrum Bar, Atrium Café, Haller Café or Go-In.
Much of Sibiu nightlife revolves around the pubs and terraces located in the two squares (Piata Mare and Piata Mica), as well as on Nicolae Balcescu and Emil Cioran streets. It is customary for Romanian pubs and bars to have special nights, dedicated to live music, karaoke or thematic parties – this of course, implies dancing. If you prefer discotheques, you can choose between Maestro Live, Club Premier, Trendy, Club Liquid, Gaudi Club.
Sibiu nightlife – Culture and Events
There are several occasions through the year when Sibiu manages to get the attention of the entire country and gather around artists and art lovers from all corners of the world: it happens during Sibiu Jazz Festival and Sibiu Theatre Festival. You can always take a peek at the National Theater Radu Stanca, the Gong Youth Theater or the State Philharmonic’s agenda, as there’s always some play or concert you can attend. If not, Sibiu Arta and ASTRA cinemas will await you with some late night shows.
