Piatra Neamt is one of the most beautiful locations from Eastern Romania. This city boasts superb sceneries due to its location in the Eastern Carpathians Mountains. It is the capital of Neamt County located 70 miles from Iasi and 160 miles from Baia Mare, and also a very important development center in the Moldova region.

The city is located in a hilly region, with an average elevation of 345 meters. Piatra Neamt is set in the Bistrita River valley, to be more precise at the exit from the mountains, surrounded by the Pietricica, Cozla, Batca Doamnei, and Carloman Mountains. As you exit the town towards the mountains, you will meet two reservoirs: Batca Doamnei and Reconstructia.

The hydrological network is supplied with water from three sources: the two reservoirs and the major water supply come from the Bistrita River.

One of the biggest paleontological reservations from the country is to be found here. The formation of the paleontological reservation Cozla-Pietricica-Cernegura is linked to the existence of a sea in this area over 60 million years ago. The archaeologists have found between the rocks a great number of fossils that came from fishes and clams that can be seen at the Science Museum of Piatra Neamt.
Piatra Neamt is one of the cleanest cities in Europe, and that is one of the reasons why the town has lots of green spaces. You can see all types of vegetation from flowers to bushes and trees in the city’s parks but also in front of the houses. People from this area love nature more than anything else. One can observe this through the way they take care of the town and its parks.

Local transport appeared in the middle of the 19th century, because the surface of the city was very small.
The local public transport belongs to the company “Trolleybus & Transurban” Piatra Neamt. This society owns 48 trolleybuses, 40 buses and two maxi-taxis which are distributed on routes that cover the entire town. The price of a ticket is around 0, 5 Euros. We can find companies that rent cars for prices between 10- 150 Euros/day. The cabs aren’t very expensive. One won’t pay more than 10 Euros for a tour of the city. The railway station, beside its utilities of being a train station, is also an architectural point of attraction. The station isn’t opened to the international traffic but it connects the city with all the other towns from the county.
For a better view of the city and its surroundings, one can use “the telegondola”. It starts from the train station climbing the Cozla Mountain till 657 meters. You will have to pay 4 Euros for a tour and for children under 14 the fee is 2, 5 Euros. The trip lasts around 6 minutes, the length of the course is about 1915 meters, and the maximum elevation is 63 meters. “Telegondola” is the most simple and quickest way to reach on the Cozla Mountain for skiing or to admire the city and its surroundings.

Piatra Neamt has a population of 130.000 citizens. Industrially speaking it comes second after Roman in the county. After 2004 the town experienced a remarkable economic growth. The people from this area know how to sell their merchandise. The truth is that this region has a great potential. The economic development left its mark on areas such as: industry, shop keeping, tourism, internet, phone and cable services.
Industry includes two paper manufacturers, a paper mill, several food-processing plants, a fertilizer plant, an agricultural machinery plant and a pharmaceutical plant. Recently several commercial brands have appeared such as Altex (electronics and home-appliances), Kober (paints manufacturer), Rifil (synthetic fibers manufacturer) which have their origins in Piatra Neamt.
Residents are mainly Orthodox and they are very faithful.

When it comes to meals, drinks and fun, the restaurants from this area know how to please clients. The main ingredients used are vegetables and fish. Among the several dishes we can mention “hribii with sour cream” which is a delicacy of the cookery, borsches made with vegetables, grilled trout, stew with polenta and garlic. The people eat out a lot due to they’re free time and due to the tempting offers that the restaurants have. Some restaurants such as Lido, Archer’s House, Ceahlaul offer a diversified menu which contains specific meals of the Romanian traditional cuisine and also international ones. The citizens have a fine taste in wines.
