Mamaia Travel Guide, Romania
Mamaia- beach resort, Romania
Romania has many beach resorts due to its vicinity to the Black Sea in the southern part of the country. The beach stretches for miles and it is all sandy no pebble beach.
Location
Mamaia is the nicest beach resorts on the Romanian Black Sea coast. It is easily reachable because it is right next to one of the biggest cities in Romania, Constanta. You can fly in directly to Constanta airport and from there you can take a taxi or the local bus that takes you to the resort which is just minutes away.
What makes Mamaia different from the other resorts is that it stretches along a long narrow beach and all the hotels are close to the beach, about 100/50 m so no matter what hotel you choose to stay in you will definitely be close to the beach.
Accommodation
There are plenty of hotels; actually there are only hotels no villas or pensions and no camping sites at least not in the southern part of the resort which is where all the action goes on. From 2 star hotels to very posh 4 stars hotels you can find every type of hotel for every budget. Among the most noteworthy are Iaki and Rex, one of the classiest on the beach.
Amenities
Most of the amenities are to be found between the southern part of the resort and the central part, this is the liveliest and most crowded part. There is everything, shops, restaurants, a casino, bars, discos, artisan market great for souvenirs and an Aqua Magic, a great water park with lots of slides for both adults and kids. If you go towards the north you’ll see that it is much quieter.
The beach
The beach is great especially for kids because the water is not deep and you can go on for some 20 m and it won’t get higher that your knees. This is also great because the water warms up much faster and it is quite pleasant to swim. I would say this is the perfect resort if you want to come with your kids.
Food
You can either choose to eat at the hotel’s restaurant (most of the hotels have) or choose to arrange your meals which is the better choice because you can try other restaurants as well and stick with the one you like. There are also plenty of cafeterias practicing good prices and excellent food.
Entertainment
During the day you can either go on a boat trip, or go to Aqua Magic for some fun on the water slides. When the night comes what most people do is walking down the main street, sitting at a terrace and watching people go by while they have something to eat or drink, play at the casino, or dance the night away in an open air disco. There is also live entertainment as Mamaia is hosting the annual music contest the Mamaia Music Festival.
You can see the resort from the air with the help of the Gondola a chairlift that takes you from the beginning of the resort to its centre and the view is great.
You can also visit the resort by renting family bikes which is also fun.
Things to see.
Being close to Constanta you can go on a one day excursion to the dolphinarium to see the dolphin do some tricks or the Aquarium to see other spices of fish. For gamblers there is a great casino right on the waterfront with a great view.
If you want to see the Romanian seaside you should start with Mamaia resort and you will get a good impression. It is clean, elegant and offers great entertainment and relaxation possibilities.
