Galati Travel Guide, Romania
Galati, Travel Guide - General Information
I bet you have never heard about this town before, nor did you know it is one of the largest ones in Romania. Galati is indeed a poorly developed touristic point, but this doesn’t mean it is not an amazing city, with beautiful landscape, strategic position, warm people and many places to visit.
Galati is situated at the eastern border of Romania, neighbored by the Republic of Moldavia, crossed by the beautiful Danube and “shadowed” by the oldest mountains in the country, Dobrogea Mountains.
Galati, Travel Guide - Places to Visit
If you ask any local which is the best place where you can start your journey in Galati, they will all provide you with the same answer: “faleza”. Just imagine two long alleys running alongside the Danube, a lower and a higher one, each with its sceneries and offers. The lower cliff is safer, perfect for sports like: cycling, jogging, roller skating, whereas the upper one will most certainly impress you with an amazing picture of the blue Danube, passing by in a hurry through one of the last cities in her long journey.
If you have never travelled by boat, then you should definitely experience it once you get to Galati. The ticket price is quite cheap and the amazing sensation is guaranteed. After crossing the great river back and forth, you can lead your steps towards one the most beautiful Botanical Gardens in Romania. It is a huge place, hosting hundreds of species of plants and representing an oasis of tranquility that helps people forget about the stress of the industrialized town.
From the Botanical Garden you can easily get to the Television Tower, which has been opened for the public as a restaurant. It is 84 meters high, so the only way you can get to the last floor is by elevator. The scenery from above is breathless and may I suggest you go there by night so that you can have a wonderful picture of the sleepy Galati.
Galati, Travel Guide – Events
People from Galati like to have fun so they take advantage of any occasion to throw big parties. One of the greatest events in town is on the 30th of November, but all the concerts are organized in open air and it is usually quite cold outside during that time of the year. Therefore, the best choice would be the 15th of August, also known as Saint Mary’s Day, when all kind of wonderful events and ceremonies take place, most of the related to the Danube River.
Galati has a wonderful location. You just have to pack your stuff, read Constanta Travel Guide or Iasi Travel Guide and make up your mind on what is your next destination. No matter your choice, it will take you 2 hours to get there.
