Arieseni Travel Guide, Romania
Set in the hearth of the Apuseni mountains Arieseni, this tiny ski resort is well known mostly in the northern part of Romania.
If you come from Hungary you enter Romania at the North West border in the city of Oradea then head towards Beius. It is located at the border of Bihor and Alba counties.
The road is usually clean but with a lot of curves and it is better if you come equipped with chains. You can park near the slope but on Saturdays and Sundays it gets pretty crowded so it is better if you leave your car at the lodge.
The resort is situated at an elevation of 950m and it has mostly the basic ingredients for a ski resort, nothing fancy, quite rustic and peaceful. Reservation in advance is required if you want to go for the weekend.
Prices are reasonable and range from 20 to 50 Euros a night but they go rocket high for Christmas or New year’s Eve.
The slope is 900 m long and it is illuminated by night. It is regularly groomed and of medium difficulty. There is also a smaller slope next to it and beginners and those who want to go sleighing are safe there. Getting up is easy as there is a cable that has a good capacity.
There are plenty of accommodation possibilities. The majority are lodges and range from 10 to 50 places. There are hotels too and some of them have restaurants, but that’s about it there are no shops around and few locals live here there are only lodges that are rented throughout the season. So the place is pretty unspoiled.
Right next to the slope there are possibilities for ski, snowboard and sleigh rentals as well as small bars where you can warm up and have a cup of tea or hot wine.
The place is rarely short of snow and most of the time it reaches a meter.
It might not have the classy feel of the top skiing resorts, but it is definitely one of the most sought in the region.

On Saturday morning we arrived to Arieseni with some friends. We had a reservation for a night in the 'Cabana Art' pension. It was a really nice place opened in December the previous year, so it was very new :) Our room was on the third floor, if I remember well, and from our balcony we could see... - Having great time in Arieseni

On Sunday we woke up in the morning, ate something, and then we went to ski a bit. But after a couple of hours we felt that we are too tired, my feet ached because I wasn't used with my new ski boots, so we returned to the pension. After packing our bags we decided to go on a trip with some... - Arieseni, the best place for winter sports

At the time we were there a festivity was taking place. This was the Celebration of the Snow, or in romanian 'Sarbatorile Zapezii'. This is a two day festival which is organized in every year. People from the surrounding area come here to see the show, not only who would like to ski but families...

If you'd like to go to ski but you don't have equipment for it, don't worry! On the way to the ski trails many little 'shops' are opened from where you can borrow skis, boots, snowboards and even sledges. And they are not very expensive,... - 'Cabana Art' pension in Arieseni

If you'd like to stay more than just one day, I advise you the 'Cabana Art' hotel which is about 400 meters from the ski trails (half of the road can be made on ski). This is not really a hotel... it's somewhere between a hotel and a...
