Doha Sights and Landmarks Guide, Qatar
A good number of tourists flock this capital city of Qatar every year. This can be attributed to the amazing historical and cultural landmarks that made the city a beauty to behold. Apart from that, Doha also offers a magnificent view of the Doha bay. The modern buildings in Doha as well the obvious amount of money being invested on construction and infrastructure will give rise to a new Doha in the future. It is even predicted that Doha will be the next premier city on that side of the Gulf Sea following the suit of its neighboring cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. In fact, several linking bridges are rumored to be constructed to connect the Qatar to Bahrain and UAE.
The visual highlight of Doha lies not in its museums but in the long promenade that extends along the whole Doha bay. It offers a fantastic view of the skyscrapers of Doha as well as the magnificent Palm Tree Islands. In the afternoons, it is the perfect backdrop for usual strolls by both the locals and the tourists as well as the ideal venue for jogging and rollerblading. The Doha Zoo found near the Sports City Complex houses a variety of animals including the national animal of Qatar known as the Oryx.
On the cultural and historical side, the Museum of Islamic art, which is going to be opened on November 22nd, 2008, will be the dwelling of artifacts from the Al-Thani dynasty, as well as art from all parts of the Middle East. The whole complex in which the museum will be found was designed by the famed architect I. M. Pei. The Qatar National Museum, the former abode of the sheiks, now houses artifacts from traditional Qatar. The Doha Heritage Village found in Corniche is the model of a traditional Qatari village where weaving, pearl trading, and a dhow – their traditional boat – can be found. There are also various souqs or markets that are found on the premises of the city. The most popular is known as the Souq Waqif where one can buy souvenirs, sit down to smoke a Sheesha, or enjoy affordable yet good food.
In the future, the tourism power of Doha will be a force to reckon with. As of current, there has been a steady influx of visitors. Prices now are still as affordable as they can be; however, in the future, the case will not be the same. Visit Doha now and enjoy this young and attractive destination by the Gulf Sea.
