Katowice Nightlife, Poland
Katowice, Poland is a typical modern city, where contemporary arts and the modern lifestyle find a common ground. It’s hard to define Katowice nightlife in a few sentences: the city is growing so fast that every week a new restaurant or club pops-up. But if you want to play safe, here are some suggestions:
Katowice Nightlife – Where to Eat
Katowice’s display of flavors and cuisines is as good as in any big European city: apart from numerous Polish restaurants, you will be able to find Italian, Arabic, Hungarian, Japanese and even Russian restaurants. Some of the most popular places are: Monopol (serving Polish traditional food), Qubus Hotel, Pad de Rossa or La Cantina. There is a much appreciated vegetarian restaurant called Zloty Osiol, as well as a very interesting place called Liberty Square, where they serve monastery dishes. According to locals (and not only), a Silesian dish that you shouldn’t miss is the “rolady z modra kapusta i slaskimi kluskami” (rolls with red cabbage and potato dumplings).
Katowice Nightlife – Where to Party
The only problem about Katowice nightlife is that, when you have too many options, it will be hard to choose. My suggestion is to follow your instinct and be sure there will be always some gig or event going on. In any case, there are still some places where people go in big numbers (in Katowice’s case, those would be Jazz Club Hypnoza, Czakram Club or Elektro). If you’re looking for a friendly atmosphere, you definitely will feel like home in Spencer Pub, Wunder Bar or Irish Mbassy Sports Bar. Katowice boasts with one of the most active clubbing scenes in the country; you’ll be able to check it yourself in places like Spitz, Longman or Wyzszy Wymar.
Katowice Nightlife – Where to Go
In the recent years, Katowice municipality has made serious attempts to encourage local art and promote cultural manifestations of any kind. There are no less than four theater halls in Katowice: the Silesian Theater (biggest in the city – three scenes), Atheneum Theater, Korez Theatre and Rialto Cinetheater. Also, Cogitatur and GuGalander clubs host regularly experimental theater and cinema manifestations. For some quality live music, check out the schedule of the Silesian Philharmonic, Spodek Pub or the National Symphonic Orchestra of Polish Radio. Cinema lovers will be delighted to find out that Katowice has more than 35 cinema halls, plus a state-of-the-art IMAX Theater. Don't expect Katowice to be as good as Krakow or Gdansk in terms of nightlife, but be sure it will please you (if not impress you).
