Tacloban City Sights and Landmarks Guide, Philippines
Filled with lively people, Tacloban offers places of historical significance and hobby-related spots. The place is so much interesting that you cannot stop from going to one attraction after another.
The Price Mansion was Douglas MacAthur’s office and considered as his headquarters. This place is presently the CAP building and in a room you can see his name which was purposely preserved for viewing.
Another is the Provincial Capitol Building which was the Philippine Commonwealth’s seat during the year 1944. At the time of the ruling of the Japanese, the government was struggling to be free and was strategically protecting their leaders. In the Redoña House, former President Sergio Osmeña, together with his staff resided and, hence, it became their official liberation residence.
Improvements made by the Japanese extended beyond their governance before the World War II. In memory of those Japanese soldiers and paramilitaries who lost their lives during the Second World War, the Tokyo Survivors Association assisted in the erection of the Philippine-Japan Peace Commemorative Monument and Park. One can bring their whole family and look at the whole view of Cancabato Bay from the height of the park.
Cancabato Bay is a splendor to behold. No wonder it is such a hit for both locals and visitors. People visit the area for the view’s calming effect. It is considered a sanctuary for a person who wants an “alone time” with nature.
With an amphitheater facing the sea, the Balyu-an Park is well-known for the shows that are hold in this spectacular venue. People would go there to watch sports events and cultural shows. It is well-loved and patronized for its unique ambiance and elegant atmosphere.
Bookworms will surely love the People’s Center and Library. Books from all around the globe are kept and taken good care of. These rare finds are strictly guarded by the dedicated librarians of the library. Enormous collection of the life and culture of the Filipinos during the early times can also be found here.
Have you heard of an Asian Madonna? You can visit the Maria Kanon Madonna of Peace Shrine in Tacloban City. The statue, which was carved by a Japanese sculptor, is made from a distinct miyagi stone of solid nature. Erected on the hill of Kanhuraw, a striking view is created by this solid image.
Tacloban boasts of its historical spots but you can also find a handful of places to enjoy yourself and your family on a vacation in nature-related attractions. Nothing beats an actual experience of a place considered more than a ticket to the past.
