Siasi, the Philippines - Overview: The Beauty of a Tribal World
The island of Mindanao lies on Zamboanga’s southern shore. On this island, lies a municipality known as Siasi. The history of Siasi evolving as a community is still a mystery. Some believe that it started as a group of houses. Their main economic occupations were farming, fishing and hunting. In due course of time, the natives of this village started trading their products with their counterparts from nearby towns and villages. By the middle of the 19th century, the community started flourishing. The huge demand for staple food led to the production of agricultural products and it became a major industry.
Found in the Philippines, it is one of the original 18 municipalities of Sulu, which lies midway between Tawi-Tawi, Basilan and is surrounded by the Mindanao and Sulu seas on both sides. The Sulu, which occupies Siasi, comprises 157 islands and they are divided into four groups the Pangutaran group, the Jolo group, the Siasi-Tapul group and the Tongkil-Banguingui (Samales) group.
Jolo is mountainous and highly volcanic in origin. You can easily see the scattering of mountains, but still they do not form any continuous range. The other islands are forested, swampy and low. Small rivers, insignificant of providing navigation, flow through the region.
However, in Jolo, one can find some crater lakes like Panamao and Seit Lake.
The area has a total population of about 6 million. However, the most interesting noteworthy point is that it recorded 5.6% retardation in population from 1970 to 1975. Among the Sulu region, Jolo is the least populated region and Siasi is the most populated region.
In 1968, by the Republican act the city gained the status of a corporate municipality and the first local election took place in 1971. The education system is divided into three districts, namely: Laminusa, Siasi I and Siasi II. The region has 47 schools.
As regarding entertainment and attractions, this place is no step behind in comparison to others. It provides ample opportunities to the visitors and locals. From bars to restaurants and open dancing arena, the city has everything. Amongst these, the most famous is the Siasi Tower, which is just a perfect place both for friends and families. Other than this, the 7PM Bar and Dine with Wine are also famous.
