Puerto Princesa History, Philippines
If you’re planning to go to paradise with breath-taking sights, immaculate sand beaches, beautiful islands and abundant rainforest, the tropical paradise of Puerto Princesa City Palawan is the best choice for you. The place has a lot to offer you.
The city has been hailed as the Last Ecological Frontier in the Philippines. Puerto Princesa is the seat of public administration, as well as the center for trade and industry, commerce and services. To better appreciate and fully understand its people, it’s best that we take a glimpse of the city’s history, culture and music.
Legend says the name Puerto Princesa was attributed to a Princess - like a maiden who was said to roam around the bay at certain moonlight nights of the year. Practically, it was named Puerto Princesa because of its strategic location as a seaport - protected by natural resources the whole year and accommodating all kinds of sea vessels, and as the Spanish colonizers set eyes on it, they said it was a royal haven and a fundamental princess of parts.
Despite all these, history states the city was named after Princess Eulalia. Revisiting the past, it was last March 4, 1872 when this beautiful paradise was founded. It was at the Puerto Princesa Bay where over 300 Spanish led by Don Jose Sostao set foot.
It was on 1894 that the Spanish government distinguished Puerto Princesa among the nicest towns in the country because of its clean surroundings. The town was then established as a municipal government on 1902 by the American administration. The Japanese have their share of history too in 1942 during Second World War. The United States liberated them from the Japanese in 1945.
To date, Puerto Princesa City has maintained its historical origins as being one of the cleanest cities in the Philippines.
