Casiguran, Philippines – Overview
Casiguran is one of the largest towns in the province of Sorsogon, Philippine. It is situated in the northern part of the province. The town of Casiguran is bordered with Dinalungan, Dilasag, Quirino and by the Pacific Ocean in the south. According to a recent consensus, the population of Casiguran is more than 40,000 people. Like the other towns of Philippine, it is a bay town.
Politically, the town of Casiguran is divided into the 25 barangays. Some of the major barangays are Boton, Casay, Adovis, San Isidro, Tiris, Ponong, Cogon, Escuala, San Pascual and Trece Martirez.
According to the local folks and legends the name of the Caisugran derived from “Kasaguruhan", which means safety. The town of Casiguran was founded by the Spanish Missionaries in the 1600. Dumagats and Aetas tribes are recorded to be the first settlers of Casiguran. Different dialects were used by these people. Some of the most popular dialects were Bicolano, Ilokano, Visayan and Pampango.
The town of Casiguran has been administered by 34 leaders since its establishment. Casiguran is awarded with beautiful landscapes, beaches, forests and many wonderful spots. Some of the major tourist spots in Casiguran are Ermita Hill, White Sand Beach, Dalugan Beach, Motiong Beach and many other beautiful landscapes. There is a famous mountain range “Madre Mountain Ranges” in Casiguran. The whole area is covered with the primitive plants and mist-covered jungles. The major part of “Madre Mountain Ranges” is still unexplored as visitors find it difficult to go to the top.
