Baler, the Philippines – Overview
Baler is one of the largest municipalities in the province of Aurora, the Philippine. It has a population of more than 35,000 people. Tagalog is the language of the locals. Situated near the Baler Bay in the Pacific Ocean, Baler has been regarded as a political and financial center of the province of Aurora. Baler Bay serves as one of the most popular tourist attractions, where tourists from all over the world come for surfing, boating, snorkeling and sailing. Baler was founded by Fr. Sid Aris Amarillo in the 1600s. Before the Americans arrived in the area, it was part of Nueva Ecija and its previous name was Kinagunasan. The Carrasco, the Angara and the Bitong were the first inhabitants of this area.
Politically, Baler is divided into 13 barangays. Some of the major barangays are Barangay I, Buhangin, Reserva, Zabali, Calabuanan, Pingit and Sabang etc.
Beautiful climate and wonderful landscapes have made Baler a great tourist spot. There are many sights and attractions to make it a tourists’ haven. Some of the most popular are Ermita Hill, Gloria Crossroads, Dicaloyungan Picnic Zone, Sabang Beach, Aniao Islets and Dicaloyungan Picnic Zone etc.
The town of Baler also hosts the Aurora Surfing Cup, gathering surfers from all over the Philippine.
Baler hosts a number of events and festivals throughout the year. The Philippines-Spanish Friendship day is celebrated on July 4th. Baler festivals attract a big crowd from the whole region.
Baler has a large number of resorts and restaurants. There is every type of accommodation option. You can find luxurious hotels, resorts, villas and guesthouses.
The town of Baler also serves as a center of industry and trade. Agriculture and fishing are amongst the most popular industries.
Baler is the birthplace of many notable people including Manuel L. Quezon, Edgardo J. Angara, Sid Aris Amarillo (founder of Baler) and Eunice "Nesing" P. Guerrero – Cucueco etc.
The educational institutes of Baler are famous throughout the Philippine. Some of the most popular ones are Aurora Montessori Center, Inc, Baler Adventist Elem. School, Baler Angel Care School, Inc and Mount Carmel College etc.
