The city of Colón is situated on the coast of the Caribbean Sea and is part of Panama. It is located in the Atlantic entrance which goes into the Panama Canal. The constant deteriorating unemployment conditions have given rise to various kinds of drug addictions for the young as well as for the adults, creating thus serious problems for the locals. Lastly, these factors have given rise to violence issues in this city. Multiple Panamanian Governments promised the locals to curb down violence in this city but none could succeed and Colón is still fighting with its fate.

As per the latest census of 2000 the population of Colón was around 204,000 inhabitants. It was 3000 in 1900 and then jumped to 31,000 in 1920 due to the newly built Panama Canal. Since then the population of Colón has been rising significantly.
In recent years many of the educated class of Colón have left the city and this has heavily disturbed the ethnic diversity of Colón. Some of the communities that left Colón were Chinese, Jewish, Italian, Greek, American Expatriates, and European Expatriates. Nowadays, Colón has various Arab communities and South Asian communities living happily in this city. Also a large part of Mestizo – Hispanic locals and various West Indians also live in Colón.
