Managua Sights and Landmarks Guide, Nicaragua

Managua has a variety of beautiful places to visit.  It has been able to conserve a large part of its colonial history which is absolutely spectacular to see.  Managua in Nicaragua also has a variety of natural attractions and destinations which include beaches, national parks and volcanoes.  Here is a sample of what Managua has to offer to you:

The Palacio Nacional or the National Palace is currently a historic and cultural museum which houses unique stone sculptures from the original tribes that roamed the Managua area; the Nahuatl locals.  These stone monuments date back to over 2500 hundred years.  There are also other artifacts and historical writings that explain about the Nahuatl indigenous tribe.

The Catedral de Managua is an example of the colonial architecture of the Spanish.  In the 1970s, an earthquake almost successfully destroyed the entire Cathedral but people decided not to rebuild it and leave it as is.  Therefore, you can visit the remains although a large part of it still stands undamaged.

In honor of the great Nicaraguan poet, Ruben Dario, there is a fountain which commemorates him at the Ruben Dario Rotonda.  It is absolutely stunning to view at night as it is lit up.

If you want to see Nicaragua’s natural side, you should visit the Tiscapa Lagoon.  This is a fresh water lagoon that is amazing to see and you can even take a zip line tour and zoom above it.  There is also a military commemoration memorial located at this extinct crater. If you enjoy this lagoon and crater then you should go to the Masaya Volcano National Park which is located a bit outside of Managua where you can see an actual live volcano.  At night, you can see the fumes float up towards the sky.

Nicaragua is also home to a variety of spectacularly blue beaches with crystal white sand.  If you are looking for waves, try going to the pacific side.  You can check out San Juan del Sur Beach, Pochomil Beach, Majagual Beach and Marsella Beach.
