Christchurch is among the most progressive, cosmopolitan and rocking cities in New Zealand and its student population isn’t all that tied up with academics to ignore the multitude of happening spots the city is loaded with. However, the city isn’t only about the youth entertainment scene with ample scope for varied nightlife activities afforded for a more mature audience looking at evening floor shows at hotels, glamour clubs, karaoke nights punctuated by sports-lovers unite all-night game shows on giant plasma screens at beer-bars besides moonlit boat rides for the romantically inclined!

But, it does pay to mention that Christchurch’s main attractions are mostly geared towards making its younger brigade of visitors - many of who are exchange students on cultural or educational programs - a happier lot when it comes to offering unlimited scope for partying! This is also the reason why most casinos have a 20years age entry allowance as opposed to the minimum 21years one imposed by European and American ones. They do require you to tog up in your best though, to gain access into the more elitist ones in Christchurch - and by that they mean the new lycra jeans from Calvin Klien worn with keds just won’t make the cut!

  The nightlife scene in Christchurch: endless entertainment options 

Among the best ways to let the good times roll when in Christchurch is to try out the hottest nightlife activity there: called a pub crawl! It’s essentially a bus that can be rented out by a group for the night where they get to be driven around various pubs in the city limits; some Universities also arrange it for student bodies as an orientation to local culture. Some of these have a dance floor (with the seats taken out) and typically feature thumping music that make for great parties, where one can ensure no one has to drive home drunk as everyone’s escorted back home safely!

That aside, there isn’t any dearth of watering holes in Christchurch for the travellers with a yen for the bubbly: some pubs, however, have a strict dress code - like The Grumpy Mole, which makes up for this policy with their big dance-tables, giant screen TV for video and sport-viewing besides funky music to keep the mood going. (The Holy Grail is more relaxed on dress code).

The Christchurch Casino, among the first in NZ to welcome public (1994 onwards), is based on an Egyptian theme and is a gambler’s heaven with over 500 gaming machines, 37 tables, triple bars and double restaurant facilities besides a private gaming lounge for privileged patrons! And, if you’ve never tried your luck at gambling, this is just the place to learn: for, not only do some of the training tables teach you select games for free, if you’re not set in the gambling groove just yet, you can always indulge in some fine dinner choices at affordable costs or the 1 cent machines, which are fun and cheap.

If however, you only want to put on your dancing shoes, Christchurch won’t disappoint: with many live bands and nightclub scene dishing out everything from trance to drum and bass to house music, you’ll soon be shaking more than your booty if you visit Mansion, Eye Spy, Civic Christchurch or Carbon, the most happening nightclubs in Christchurch!
