Sightseeing in the Border Town, Tijuana in Mexico

Tijuana is a commercialized touristic destination where many US citizens come to in order to buy items at a cheaper rate.  Tijuana is a popular touristic destination around the world yet the majority who visit this place are Americans. 

Tijuana is split up into four main areas: the zona centro (center zone), zona norte (the northern zone), Playas (beaches) and zona Rio (the river zone).  Zona centro is where the majority of the tourists go yet one should explore more than just this one area.

For a unique experience, one can drive to the border, park the car and then take a 15 to minute walk over the border.  These parking lots cost anywhere from $5 to $10 per day.  You should definitely take a picture on your way back of the “ Walk to the USA” signs as many find the signs to be rather amusing.  A cultural event for Mexico is going to see the bullfights that take place in the Playas de Tijuana.  The bullfighting season is during the summer months and it is beautiful to watch because you will also have a nice view of the water. 

You should pass by the Tijuana Cultural Center to get a sense of the art and history of Mexico and also of this lovely Tijuana city.  If you are looking for places that are more historic then you may want to go a little outside of Tijuana to the nearby Preparatoria Federal Lazaro Cardenas which Al Capone used as a base for his contraband.  You can also catch some waves and some sun in Rosaito and Ensenada which are beautiful beaches.

Most tourists however visit the Avenida Revolucion (Revolution Avenue) which is a commercial zone located in the Center Zone of Tijuana.  Here you will be able to pick up souvenirs and other shopping items which can be very cheap.  Other common items that tourists buy here include Cuban cigars, vanilla and silver jewelry.
