Santiago De Queretaro Sights and Landmarks Guide, Mexico

The largest city and the capital of the Mexican State of Queretaro is Santiago de Queretaro. It is a place visited by a number of businessmen and a very large number of tourists too.

Many tourists are attracted to Santiago de Queretaro because it has a beautiful historic centre. A famous sight in the city is the Mansion of Ecala. You can find the main sights in downtown Queretaro called the Centro Historica.

The Cerro del Sangremal, where the city was founded is close to this area. A very prominent sight in this area is The Convent of Holy Cross. On the western side of the convent is the Plaza de Armas. It is a beautiful square that has some great baroque buildings around it like the Casa de la Corregidora and the Casa de Ecala.

One can see another famous sight of the city, the 74 arched Aqueduct that was built by Juan Antonio de Urrutia y Arana. It was used for taking water from some springs east of the city to the Convent of the Holy Cross.

You can find a large number of beautiful churches in the city like San Francisco, Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Santa Clara, and the Cathedral and several museums like Restoration of the Republic, City, Regional, and Art museums.

You can see stunning gardens like Plaza de la Corregidora, Jardin Guerrero, Jardin Zenea, Plaza de la Constitucion and famous theatres like Comicos de la Lengua and El Corral de Comedias.

Another very important place is The Cerro de las Campanas or Hill of Bells, which is a beautiful park. Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg was executed here. The Austrian Habsburg family got a small chapel made in his memory.

Santiago de Queretaro is a beautiful city that has a deep-rooted history and a population that has managed to maintain a perfect blend between the traditional values and modern thinking.
