La Paz History, Mexico

Archeologists state that humans have been living on this land since 10000 B.C. These settlers were nomads who used to do fishing so as to collect food. Along with fishing these nomads also used to indulge in farming too. They used to cultivate berries, roots, and various kinds of seeds. They used to utilize huge trees and caves for their shelters. Various paintings in the caves which are found in and around the city are a proof that these nomads used to live in these caves. Most of these caves have now been sealed for the general tourists so as to protect them from deteriorating. These caves have been tagged as Heritage of Humanity.

The first official case of conquering this land was held on 3rd May, 1535, when Hernan Cortez. He named this land as Villa de la Santa Cruz. Hernan Cortez tried several time to conquer the peninsula but just couldn’t gain full control over the island even though many years passed. The major reasons behind this failure were heavy resistance by the locals of the island, lack of water, and less availability of food for the army which was fighting under the supervision of Hernan Cortez. History is a proof that the natives of California never appreciated when outsiders tried to conquer them by use of force. Although on the other hand when priests conquered the island by their preaching then the locals never resisted. Also when outsiders came into the city for work then too the locals never resisted.

It was during those days itself when the waters around the area of La Paz were named as Bermejo Sea as the waters in these water bodies used to change its color from blood red to azure blue.

It was the year 1596 when Sebastian Vizcaino named the peninsula as La Paz. He laid down his expedition on this land as he did understand the importance of this land and the waters around it. The history of La Paz has been full of various kinds of warriors which does include many pirates who used to use this land so as to improve the condition of their ships. The night winds of La Paz have been tagged as Coromuel which is inspired from the privateer of British, Cromwell.
