The city of Jalapa (also famous by the name of Xalapa) is the capital city for the state of Veracruz, Mexico. The official name for the city of Jalapa is Xalapa de Enríquez which was given to honor the governor of 19th century Juan de la Luz Enríquez. The surrounding municipality also has the same name Jalapa. The city of Jalapa has a nickname which is La ciudad de las flores (which actually means city of flowers). This name was given by Alexander von Humboldt who had visited this town on February 10th, 1804.
