Campeche Sights and Landmarks Guide, Mexico
The historical hub of Mexico is what you will call the city of Campeche once you visit it. With around thousand historical monuments and numerous yet to be discovered historical sights (proves of which are being found in various excavations), the city of Campeche has become one of the hottest tourist attractions in the country of Mexico.
While passing through the cobbled streets of Campeche you will smell the sounds of Spanish army and civilian fights which hit the city during the early years of 19th century. One can start its tour of Campeche by visiting Casa 6 (known as House 6 in English). This historical monument of 17th century is famous for its beautiful architecture and represents the lifestyle of people who used to live in the city of Campeche during the early years of 19th century. The book shop located in the proximity is the information hub which will help you learn more about the monument. The restaurant nearby will be helpful when you are exhausted and need some energy.
Another very famous tourist attraction in the city of Campeche is the Campeche Cathedral. The cathedral is located in the historical center of Campeche and hence has many other historical monuments located in its proximity. Although it used to be a small monument when it was built in the year of 1540 yet today it has become an important tourist attraction as it was re-built somewhere in the year of 1760. Construction has always been running in the cathedral and the latest addition the four face clock which was added somewhere in the year 1916.
For those who want to take time out from the historical touch of this city can visit The Boardwalk where tourists arrive to enjoy the beach with the beautiful sunset. The site of vehicles running around 3 lanes with people walking on 3 footpaths and the sound of sea alongside makes you feel different from what the rest of Campeche offers in the form of historical monuments.
Some other famous tourist attractions of Campeche are San Miguel and San Jose el Alto’s Fort, Hacienda Tankuche, and San Fernando’s Garrison.
