Acapulco History, Mexico

Acapulco perhaps is one of the most visited places in Mexico.  It is known for its world class restaurants and hotels.  Remembering and capturing what history has left in this city, you will truly be astounded.  It actually brought Acapulco to where it is now.

First Inhabitants

Acapulco’s first settlers were the Nahuas.  They are more likely remembered as predecessors of the more famous tribe known as the Aztecs.  These inhabitants were a bit shaken when a Spaniard named Francisco Chico arrived in the area.  Way back then, Acapulco was named Santa Lucia.

The Pirates

Chico’s arrival led the place to become one of the most popular trading ports for the Asians and Americans.  However, there were also some disadvantages to this as pirates flanked the area.  The most famous ones were Francis Drake, Henry Morgan and Thomas Cavendish.  The Spanish were so concerned about this happening and in order to prevent the rise of piracy, they had to establish Fuerte de San Diego.  The fort kept the bandits away but in 1776, it was eventually destroyed by an earthquake.  More so, the so-called War of Independence wrecked the city in 1810.

Rising from War

Despite the ruins left by the combat, Acapulco was able to rise again and opened its ports to more opportunities for business.  As evidence to this, Panama made it its strong comrade in terms of gold exchange.  For some years, the entire city was restored and became a more prominent spot for tourism not only in Mexico but in the entire world as well.

Europeans have consistently been the top placers when it comes to visiting the place.  This occurrence was tracked in the 1920s.  It took so many years before Acapulco transcended into an industrial and vacation spot for the rich and famous.  Hollywood stars were seen in the city since 1950 when buildings and other relevant infrastructures like hotels were founded on its vast grounds.  To be able to cater to the masses, tourism expanded between the 1960s and 1970s.

One of the relevant aspects of history was established in the 1990s.  The said era was said to be a form of transformation which connected Acapulco to other Mexican towns and cities.  A road was built and all of the locals of Mexico were able to explore the wonders and beauty of the beaches of Acapulco.

Present-Day Acapulco

Since Acapulco became one of the most favored Mexican cities for tourists, it had continued to widen its horizons.  Local leaders and national officials made it a point that the city ventured into a very high class in society while preserving its love for all people.  Now, Acapulco is the home for first-class hotels and restaurants with multiple resorts in the area.

This prime vacation spot had retained its stature when it comes to tourism.  Who would ever fail to remember the name Acapulco?  Famous for its beaches, this popular Mexican city is a sight to be explored by any traveler.
