Johor Baharu Travel Guide, Malaysia
Abbreviated as JB, Johor Baharu is the capital of Johor located in the southern Malaysia. It is situated within a walking distance of Singapore and gets over 60% of annual foreign tourists of the country through its road links and bridges to Singapore. The city has been a significant tourism, commercial and industrial hub in southern Malaysia and its highly developed base of industries has made it one of the largest industrial centers in the country. Its main industries include resource, electronics, shipbuilding and petrochemical refinery.
The large number of shopping complexes in Johor Baharu cater to the tourists of Singapore who like to visit the place for entertainment and shopping, for taking advantage from the stronger dollar of Singapore. The major shopping districts have been located in Johor Baharu and there are several big shopping malls in the suburban area.
Johor Baharu has been well-served with a strong connectivity to international and regional centers. The Senai International Airport has been located in the north-west of metropolis and is served by national as well as regional airlines.
The Tanjung Pelepas Port located in the west of metropolis is the largest trans-shipment hub in Malaysia. Pasir Gudang Port or Johor Port has been located on the east of metropolis and is the country’s most significant mineral resources and commodities seaports. Airport and world-famous seaports of Singapore also cater to the city’s logistics and transportation needs as they have been located in within an hour’s distance from JB.
There are various historical landmarks in the city including the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque, the Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Palace Museum and the Sultan Ibrahim Building. The natural attractions of the place include the Johor Zoo, the Saleng Zoo, the Haji Ali House and the Orchid Valley. Johor Baharu has been reasonably known for the golf courses available there. The water sports that can be enjoyed here are scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, paddle skiing and kayaking. There are also three main cinemas for the movie lovers. The Massage Gallery Home Spa located in Taman Perling has two massage rooms and one semi-open area for body scrubbing. The masseurs are male only.
Johor Baharu has been full of shopping malls that cater to mostly Singaporean as well as local shoppers. Some of these include AEON Tebrau City which is the largest one in JB, City Square, Plaza Kotaraya, Plaza Pelangi and Holiday Plaza. Most of the dining spots and food stalls come alive during the night and some of the common dishes are seafood. Some specialties of Johar include mee rebus and Johor laksa.
