Strumica is located at the southeastern part of the Republic of Macedonia, near the border with Bulgaria. The city is the largest settlement in Strumica Valley, the city was named after.

Strumica is located 160km from Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Since the city does not have its own airport, international tourists can get to Strumica via the airport in the capital city. From there, they can take the bus to get into the city.
The city can be reached by bus and private or rented vehicle coming from different cities. Strumica does not have a motorway link but there are plenty of roads that connect it to other cities like the E-75 and the Udovo junction.

Strumica experiences a Mediterranean climate. This is characterized by dry and warm summers, along with wet and cold winters. Spring and autumn are short and the weather is delightful. The temperature in the city can go as high as 40 degrees Celsius during summer while it can go as low as -20 degrees Celsius during winter. On the other hand, Strumica experiences an average temperature of 10 degrees Celsius every year. The annual precipitation in the city measures an average of 600L/sq.m. The wettest months are November and December while the driest months are August and September.

The City of Strumica hosts a lot of events and festivals each year. One of the best events in the city is the Strumica Carnival celebrated every lent. Different activities are organized during this festival. The event opens with a masked ball on a Saturday. Sunday is the children’s carnival while the next day is called the Pure Monday. The main event takes place during Tuesday night wherein people from all over the world take part in the activities. Side by side with the Strumica Carnival is the Festival of Caricatures and Aphorisms.
Another event taking place in the city is the International Strumica Fine Arts Colony held annually from August 1 until August 20. The Festival of Chamber Theatre also known as Risto Shishkov opens every 8 September and the activities vary every year. The Annual Art Exhibition of the Artists’ Association of Strumica happens every December. Finally, an additional must-see event in Strumica is the Asterfest or the International Film and Video Festival of Southern Europe.
