Ghadames Sights and Landmarks Guide, Libya
The city of Ghadames isn’t as famous as many other cities of Libya, yet you will find many tourists visiting this city due to two major reasons. Firstly, to enjoy the sight of the desert that surrounds it and secondly to use the city as their halting station on their way to the southern cities of Libya, namely Niger and Sebha,. Once you are in the city, you can move out to explore the surroundings. You can enjoy camel trips into the deserts of Ghadames or else participate in various festivals which are organized regularly. Photography or visits to neighboring villages is also suggested.
The House Museums is situated in the proximity of the western entrance of old Ghadames. This museum was actually the home of some famous merchant who used to do business in the surrounding areas. Today all the decorations and the historical furniture are kept as in the past, giving you an idea of how people used to live during those times. Although it might not look like a traditional museum (you might get disappointed if you are expecting something which will introduce you to the history of Ghadames), you will surely love its interiors.
The Big Mosque of Ghadames (also famous by the traditional name of D’jmaa al-Kabir) is another famous tourist attraction of the city, mainly for its architecture. You can also climb the minaret (the tower) of this town to enjoy the awesome sight of the surrounding areas. All you need is energy as the tower is actually very tall.
Lastly, you can also visit the slave market of Ghadames. It is located in the square of Mulberry and in the proximity of the famous Big Mosque. The Trans-Sahara trade, especially salt and gold and the slave trade were very famous at the time and this market was the hub of such businessThings about Ghadames you may be interested in
