Canazei Di Fassa in Ladin language means "place where marsh plants grow" maybe due to the fact that in the past it was rather isolated. Today the resort is nothing of the past; it gained international recognition as being one of the most popular skiing resorts in the Val di Fassa area being close to Pordoi, Sella and Fedaia passes and connected with the Sellaronda skiing circuit. It can be reached from the north through Passo Selle and Passo Pordoi and the east through Passo Fedaia.

it is an easily reachable resort being 56 Km from Bolzano, at the foot of Passo Pordoi, it has 78 tracks for a total length of 150 Km, 9 cableways, 2 ropeways, 29 chair lifts, 51 skilifts and 50 Km of tracks for the lovers of cross-country race.

It is an important all year-round resort because the surrounding mountains offer a full range of sporting attractions. It is also sought by those who want to mix winter and summer sports because it is close to Marmolada.

Situated in a particular natural basin, Canazei is a resort that cherishes the past and the present, fun and culture, sports and history. Snow-white slopes in winter and beautiful green colors in summer await you to explore. There are wild paths and ancient fascinating houses, everything lying under the vigilant gaze of legendary and unique peaks. The woods reaching down to the outskirts of the village demonstrate the local people’s care for their environment. But no matter where you go in the Val di Fassa region you will observe the same care. Nobody picks flowers of light up a fire where they please; there are special places for barbecues.

The locals have been as less intrusive as possible on nature and that’s why the region has managed to remain intact. The language spoken by the locals is Ladin just as in all the nearby villages.

The resort is more crowded in winter when skiers from all over the world come to enjoy the modern skiing facilities and tens of km of slopes. But people come here in summer too and one of the events that attract most visitors is a unique original parade when all Ladin people come from the nearby villages to march on the streets of Canazei.

Even if Canazei has become a very modern and renowned resort with lots of new buildings around, it has still kept part of its original feel and the Ladin people have kept their ancient traditions that can be experienced by the tourists. One of the districts that have remained intact in some way is Magoa and it is interesting to visit for its interesting architecture and buildings dating from the 15th century.

Among one of the most appreciated summer activity is biking. There are spectacular trails that take you to amazing peaks from where the view is fabulous. Along the way you can stop at typical mountain refuges and have a bite of the local specialties.

One of the trails that can be climbed on foot take you to Pecol’s Belvedere from where you can see Gruppo Sella, Sassolungo, Catinaccio and the queen of the Dolomites, Marmolada. The climb takes about an hour and a half.

Food in Canazei is excellent and what’s best is that you can taste something new, the local cuisine being famous for special flavors.

Nightlife is dominated by bars, pubs and meeting places where tourists have fun all year round.
