As per the old census of year 2006 around 92 percent of the total population of Bologna was Italian. Other than Italians the city of Bologna also has many immigrants most of which hit the city of Bologna from different European countries like Albania and Romania. The remaining are from different Asian countries like various East Asian countries and different South Asian countries.
The city of Bologna is famous for the cuisines which have been part of the city since last many decades. Even a very famous sauce named as Bolognese sauce has received its name from the name of this city itself. Cheese and meat are the major components for almost every cuisine that are famous in the city of Bologna. The food industry in the city of Bologna has been an important contributor to the economical growth of this city. Some of the vineyards which are very famous in the city of Bologna include Lambrusco di Modena, Sangiovese di Romagna, and Pignoletto dei Colli Bolognesi. Some other local specialties in the city of Bolognese are lasagne, tortellini, and Tagliatelle al ragù.
The oldest university which has ever existed in Europe is also part of Bolognese itself. The name of this city is University of Bologna and the foundation for this university was laid somewhere in the year of 1088. Educational importance has always been the part of the local budget and same is the reason why there are so many educational institutions in the city of Bolognese that regularly provide quality education.
