Shannon Sights – Landmarks and Historical Sites
Ireland is known for their medieval infrastructures and Shannon is no stranger to these sites. It shelters some of the most wonderful attractions in the country and most of these landmarks are situated next to each other. Going from one site to the other is a breeze.
Bunratty Castle. This castle is known for its authenticity and completeness among all the medieval castles found in Ireland. This was built in 1425 by the Macnamaras. In 1954, the castle was restored. Visitors to this place will find 15th and 16th century furniture, draperies, and artworks. Every night, the fortress becomes a host to the Middle Ages banquets attended by tourists and locals alike.
Bunratty Folk Park. Found on the Bunratty Castle’s grounds is the Bunratty Folk Park. The life during the 1800s is vibrantly reconstructed on this park. It displays more than 30 houses set in a ‘living’ village, in a very rural backdrop. What makes the park more interesting is that people can have a conversation with the characters situated all over the site – from the Woman of the House to the Policeman and Schoolteacher. As tourists wander from one house to another and all over the village, their senses will be immersed in a shower of tastes, sound, scents and sights. Both the young at heart, and old will definitely love the visit on this side of town.
