Tehran Nightlife, Iran
The Western-style of partying and nightclubbing is not as popular in this young city. Because most of its residents are Muslims, it has remained to be as conservative as their neighboring cities and raucous behavior at night is almost impossible. However, should you be resourceful enough, there are some interesting destinations at night that may tickle your fancy. Of course, another option is the ever-reliable restaurant choices and coffee house options that are found in almost every corner of this bustling city.

Food and coffee, although on the milder side of nightlife, are options that never go wrong especially in these traditional Muslim cities. Should you be adventurous enough to traverse the city’s thoroughfares and asks the locals, you may find them pointing at the traditional district of Tehran known as the darakeh or darband. There are some traditional nightclubs that may enliven your spirit for the whole night. Apart from this, there is no other known dancing or nightclub destination in the city.
Who knows, on your next visit, there might be a new place in town where all the Westerners head almost upon arrival? The liberal nature of Tehran makes it open for any possibility. However, if it is food or coffee that you like, then Tehran is the place to be. For coffee-starved guests, the perfect place to visit is the south side of Jomhuriyeh Eslami Avenue where there is a string of coffee houses. Another popular coffee house is Hot Chocolate where you can enjoy cigars and a number of European cigarettes on top of your coffee experience.
In terms of food, the choices are endless even if you are on a tight budget. Across the bazaar on 15 Khordad Avenue, there are a number of stalls that sell practically the best falafels in Tehran. The good thing about them is that they are very affordable, yet extremely tasty. For those whose tongue longs for Asian cuisine, head down to Monsoon in Gandhi Shopping center for a taste of the best Thai curry and sushi ala Tehran style.
Boulevard, on the other hand, found in east of Valiasr Avenue between Vanaq Square and Park-e Mellat, is the ideal destination for lovers of French and Italian food. For the more Western taste, there are numerous restaurants around town that may be able to cater to your needs. It’s just a matter of finding them.
Nightlife in Tehran is nowhere near boring. Although it is more on the tamer side, the good food, the perfect ambiance and the delectable coffees and teas outweighs the longing for dancing and alcoholic beverages.
