Pontianak Nightlife, Indonesia
Pontianak doesn’t have many “stylish” restaurants, but Warung Dangau and Permata Pub & Bar are both worth mentioning. Warung Dangau of course serves traditional Indonesian food and the beers are nicely chilled.
Biztro Discotheque is located in the Hotel Kapuas, and is really one of the only night club type establishments in Pontianak, so is worth a visit if you want to get out of your hotel or away from restaurants at night time.
Some of the hotels have bars, such as Maroon Lounge in Hotel Santika.
Looking for Karaoke? Then head to either Hotel Kapuas or the fourth floor of Hotel Kini you will find Karaoke officiandos singing the nights away. Hotel Kini offers are 8 standard rooms, 4 VIP rooms, and 3 VVIP rooms that have up to the minute sound systems.
Spend some time sitting at a hawker restaurant sampling “street hawker food” where you can taste the local delicacies such as Beef Rice Noodle & Beehoon, Seafood Noodle or Chicken or Beef Satays for which Indonesia is famous. Contrary to popular western belief, “nightlife” doesn’t just mean night clubs and bar hopping! Hawkers usually operate from dusk until 10pm or midnight this is a great way to watch the passing parade by night.
As Pontianak has a fairly large Chinese population, it’s inevitable that Chinese restaurants abound. Recommended by locals and tourists are Restoran Gajahmada (Jl. Gajahmada), Restoran Hawaii (Jl. Nusa Indah 3) and Restoran Star (Jl. Gajahmada),
Owing to its’ proximity to Malaysia, and influx of Malaysians at the end of the 19th century, Malay food is also in abundance. Dangau on Jalan Arteri Supadio serve a great offering of Malay cuisine.
Western and, surprisingly, Japanese Food are both served at the Italian Steak House on Jalan Nusa Indah 3 and Restoran Sari Bento on Jalan Ahmad Yani.
