It is the capital city for the Western Java province of Indonesia. The city has natural borders in the form of volcanic mountains which is why the Dutch rulers moved their capital from the city of Batavia to this city of Bandung.
Bandung is around 180 kilometers away from the most important city of Indonesia, Jakarta. This has helped the city of Bandung grow economically and gain recognition on the national level. The current population of this city is around 2.7 million inhabitants and estimates prove that the city of Bandung is the fastest growing city in the country of Indonesia.
Bandung is situated well over 760 meters above sea level and this has helped the city a lot to experience cool temperature regularly thus making it easy for the locals to enjoy the life style of this city. Another reason for this cold temperature is the location of this city. Bandung is located on the river basin with Citarium being the major river for this basin. Drinking water, and most importantly the fish business of Bandung is dependent on this river basin itself. Average temperature ranges somewhere near 24 degree Celsius while the rainfall can touch the heights of 3500 mm annually.
Dutch used to rule the city of Bandung in its early years and their impact can easily be found on this city. Bandung is rather famous for the multiple buildings which are related to Dutch architecture. These Dutch related monuments have always been a sight to watch for the locals as well as those tourists who flock the city in order to experience something which is different from the rest.
Sundanese is the major language for the city of Bandung as the population is mostly Sundanese. They are located in almost every corner of Western Java, the area where this city of Bandung is located. The interesting point here is that the Indonesian is used as second language and mostly you will see its use only on government papers as the government has made it compulsory for Indonesian to be used on any official works.
Bandung is not as famous amongst tourists as the other metropolitan areas and mostly the weekend lovers enter the city to enjoy its peaceful surroundings and the hilly areas.
