Vijayawada is well connected by rail to most of the cities of the state and India as it is an important junction of the South Central Railways. There are numerous express and super fast trains arriving and departing from this station every day.
Moreover, the second largest bus complex of Andhra Pradesh is found in Vijayawada while Vijayawada’s airport is found 20 km from the city where there are regular flights to Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Summers are hot and humid in Vijayawada with temperatures ranging from 20 to 47 degrees Celsius. Winters are pleasant with temperatures reaching 10 to 30 degrees Celsius, between December and February. Vijayawada experiences both south-west and north-east monsoons between the months of June to October. The best time to visit Vijayawada is between October and March.
Festivals
The two most interesting festivals of Vijayawada are the 5-day Deccan festival of February and the Lumbini festival of December. Deepavali and Dusserah are also celebrated with lots of pomp in Vijayawada.
Places of attractions
There are many attractions worth visiting while in Vijayawada including forts, temples and museums. The most famous attraction of Vijayawada for tourists and pilgrims is the Kanaka Durga temple, the strong and powerful presiding god of Vijayawada. The temple is located on the banks of Krishna River.
Locals and tourists like visiting the picnic spot, Kondapalli Fort which was constructed by Prolaya Vema Reddy in Kondapali village, somewhere in the 14th century. The fort was used for recreation and relaxation reasons. As the fort is located on a hillock, it can be seen from a long distance.
The Prakasam Barrage is another place of attraction. The structure was built in 1957 and from the barrage; you can see the beautiful lake and the three canals running through the city. Nearby is the Bhavani Island, a popular picnic spot and tourist attraction of the city.
You can an idea of the life and environment of the people of Vijayawada over the ages on visiting the Victoria Jubilee Regional Museum. It was built in 1887 and is a place of both enjoyment and education where you find manuscripts, artifacts, coins, textiles, arms and other interesting archeological objects of Vijayawada.
