Vijayawada is situated around 275 kilometers from the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, and it is also the 3rd largest city of this state in terms of population. Vijayawada is mostly famous amongst Indians for the chain of temples which the city houses. There are around 10 historical temples (ignoring the smaller ones) in the city which are always full of devotees. Along with this there are many other tourist spots for people to hang out thus making the city of Vijayawada a must visit place for anyone who plans to visit India.
Various famous temples of Vijayawada are: Subramanya Swami Temple, Marakata Rajarajeswari Temple, Kanaka Durga Temple, Mangalagiri Temple, Sri Nagarala Sri Maha Lakshmi Ammavaru Temple, Hinkar Tirtha Temple, and Amaravati Temple. Another famous religious hot spot is the exquisite Hazratbal Mosque which is said to have a historical relic which is related to Prophet Mohammed. This relic is displayed to the general public once every year and huge number of Muslim as well as non - Muslim devotees visit the mosque during that period to enjoy the celebrations.
Hinkar Tirtha is a huge Jain Temple of the city and it is also considered to be the largest Jain Temple in and around the region. This temple is famous for its unique architecture and exquisite artistic design. It is located somewhere in the Mangalagiri region of Vijayawada.
Undavalli Caves are situated around 5 kilometers away from the city of Vijayawada and in the District of Guntur. These caves date back to the 7th century and were used by Buddhist monks for resting purposes during the monsoon season. Another tourist hot spot and place of picnic for the locals is Manginapudi beach which is situated around 70 kilometers from the city of Vijayawada.
Rajiv Gandhi Park and the mini zoo along with the park is enough to attract some tourists. This park is famous amongst the tourists for the manner in which it welcomes the visitors to the park. The horticultural network of India is used to welcome the visitors when they are about to enter the gate of this park.
Bhavani Island is located on Krishna River and critics say that it might well be the largest island located on a river when compared to its counterparts on this planet.
