Pune, which was known as Poona some years back, happens to be the second largest city of Maharashtra (a state in West of India). Pune holds rich historical heritage of Indian history and it has slowly started to grow in terms of IT market within India. Pune is also famous amongst various tourists as many hills are to be found in and around the city. These hills beautify the city and these become an important reason why tourists pour in. Pune is located in the proximity of Mumbai (around 160 km from Mumbai) and hence this becomes another important reason why tourists regularly visit Pune.
The Tribal Museum is a unique city Museum which is full of artifacts of Gondhwa region and Sahyadri region. Both of these regions were found within Maharashtra. The Tribal Museum is located on Koregaon Road which lies in the eastern part of Pune.
Raja Dinakar Kelkar Museum is another famous museum of Pune which attracts loads of tourists. The busy Bajirao Road is the place where you will find Raja Dinakar Kelkar Museum. Although the road is very busy and experiences huge traffic daily, the Rajasthani style of the building that hosts the museum has peaceful atmosphere which will help the tourists to find some time off from the hip hop of the city.
National War Museum happens to be another famous museum of Pune. The inhabitants of Pune themselves set up a National War Fund and this laid the foundation of National War Museum. Construction work of the museum started somewhere in 1997 and the museum was finally opened for the general public by October 1998. The museum also houses a stone pillar which is 25 foot in size and is the memorial of those who died in the war.
Saras Baag happens to be a beautiful park with lush green environment and a Ganesh Temple right in the center of baag (which itself means park). Pune is one of the happening cities of Maharashtra and has changed a lot, thus making it a must visit city for the tourists.
