Kozhikode Sights and Landmarks Guide, India

Kozhikode is the third most populated city of Kerala and also a very famous tourist destination. There are huge number of tourist attractions in the city of Kozhikode which have succeeded in attracting many tourists in last couple of decades. Slowly but steadily Kozhikode is becoming an important tourist destination in India.

The best place to start is the Kozhikode Beach. The best feature of this beach is that it hasn’t yet been exploited by the locals of the city and hence it is almost untouched as of now. Mostly, the people living around the beach enjoy the sunset of this beach but rest of Kozhikode hardly visits this beach. Only reason being that it hasn’t been promoted that well. The famous feature of this beach is the 125 year old sea piers which extend deep inside the sea. Fishermen regularly row their boats and fight the sea waters. This site makes the beach look really very beautiful.

Kappad Beach is another famous tourist destination here in Kozhikode. It is said that Vasco Da Gama landed on this beach itself in the year 1498. He had around 170 men accompanying him when he landed on this beach. Another reason why people visit this beach is the historical temple which is located right on the top of a hillock. This temple faces the sea directly and has become an important place for worshipping.

Mananchira Square is another very famous tourist hot spot for the city of Kozhikode. Mananchira is said to be the heart of Kozhikode and houses many important monuments like the Public Library and the Town Hall. The huge pond and a beautiful park in its proximity are added advantage for those who visit this place. Mananchira Square used to be an important place for Zamorin Rulers in the early historical years and these days it has become an important park for the locals.

Vadakara is another important tourist destination in Kozhikode. It is now being used as the headquarters for taluk. This place has the remains of a ruined fort which is enough to attract many tourists.

Other famous tourist destinations of Kozhikode are Thusharagiri, Planetarium, Lalitha Kala Academy, Krishna Menon Museum and the Art gallery, Kakkayam, Pavayil Cheerpu, and Purakkattiri. There are many places for devotees to worship and these are also worth a visit due to their historical designs.
