As per the latest census of year 2008, the population of Kanpur is around 6 million inhabitants. The notable part is that most of these inhabitants are real locals and not migrants who travel to various cities for work. Hence the population of 6 million is actually Kanpur’s. The huge population is spread over an area of around 1600 kilometer square and that is why it is fifth largest as per area of expansion when compared to all the cities in India.

Kanpur is around 80 kilometer away from the capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. North Eastern side of Kanpur is bordered by River Ganga while River Yamuna (also known as Pandu River) flows from the southern side of Kanpur. District of Hamirpur lies on South of Kanpur and North Eastern side is the Unnao District. River Ganga acts as border between Unnao and Kanpur.
Many birds that migrate from place to place fly to some notable places in Kanpur during various seasons. Mostly Indian Institute of Technology, Bithoor, and place next to River Ganga are the hot spots for these migratory birds. Kanpur also boasts of Asia’s largest Zoo as per area of expansion. Although with the passing time, the quantity of animals in this zoo has gone down considerably due to the laziness of the officials.
The inhabitants of Kanpur are known as Kanpuriya and they are famous in the rest of the country due to their attitude and the style with which they speak the national language, Hindi. A mix of the culture from Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand results into totally different kind of Hindi for the locals.
Kanpur is famous around the world for the temperature difference which it experiences during the year. The temperature range is of 50 degrees Celsius where the lowest temperature can go down to the minimum of minus three degrees Celsius while the highest can touch 47.5 degrees Celsius.
