Jaipur Travel Guide, India
Jaipur is located on National Highway 8 and 11 (NH - 8 and NH - 11). National Highway 11 connects Bikaner to Agra while National Highway 8 connects Mumbai to Delhi. As per stats, Jaipur has around 4000 kilometer roads in and around the city. All these points prove the importance of Jaipur on the Indian Map.
The capital of Rajasthan and the Pink City of India, Jaipur happens to be an important city for India in terms of historical monuments, and rich culture. Jaipur was known as way back but after the Indian Independence, Jaipur was the official name. Although the foundation for the city of Jaipur was laid somewhere in 1727, today the Pink City has a population of around 5 million inhabitants. The ruler of Amber, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, was responsible for laying the foundation of this city which later became the hub of many historical monuments.
The city of Jaipur has been well planned with broad streets (which are around 35 meters wide) and quarters that are divided by a grid of streets. All these gives Jaipur a planned look and makes it a must visit city of India. There are six quarters in the city located south, east, and west of the central quarter which is the palace quarter. The sixth quarter is located east of the Pink City. The palace quarter is the most visited place in Jaipur. It has the Hawa Mahal (which means palace of breeze), a small but beautiful lake, and formal gardens. These are enough to attract tourists towards the central palace quarter.
Jaipur is surrounded by Dausa and Bharatpur districts in the east; Ajmer, Sikar, and Nagpur in the west; Tonk, Sawai, and Ajmer from the South; and Alwar and Sikar north of the city.
Jaipur receives around 50 cm of rainfall throughout the year, still it experiences semi - arid type of climate. The reason behind this semi - arid type of climate is the uneven distribution of rainfall and the proximity to the Thar Desert. Mostly Jaipur experiences rainfall from June to September.
