Architectural Heritage
Cochin enjoys a mixed flavor of British, Portugal, Chinese and Dutch architecture. You can notice that the major part of the old city still preserves an English village look. The legacy in architecture also reflects its people’s religious beliefs and thus it is also a hub of many historic churches and temples.
Amongst the important historic landmarks is St. Francis Church. It is the oldest church in the city and it has British architecture mixed with a touch of Malabar. Bolghatty Palace is another British style building. This beautiful city also enjoys some major Portugal architectural pieces like Mattancherry Palace and an array of old Portuguese houses.

Being the most important and biggest port cities of India, Cochin is the economic backbone of the state of Kerala. The city has a fairly good infrastructure. The city has several shipyards and defense establishments and is one of the major revenue generating cities for the state. It has now become an upcoming metro among the cities of India. The culture of Cochin is truly multi ethnic. The city has been an adobe to different cultures from all over the world and you can get a glimpse of Chinese, Jews, European and Arabs among the locals.
The festivals of Cochin reflect the diversity of culture. The city celebrates festivals like Vishu and Onam which represent the true South Indian culture. On the other hand, the Kochi Carnival has a pure western flavor.
Sea food is one of the major delicacies of the town.
