Aligarh Travel Guide, India
The university town of India, Aligarh happens to be a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh (which is a state in Northern India). The proximity of Aligarh to the capital of India has helped the city grow economically as well as on the educational front. It is situated just 90 miles from the capital, New Delhi. There are many districts like Hathras, Etah, Kanshi Ram Nagar, and of course Aligarh districts. Aligarh is said to have a population of half a million (which excludes the huge number of students who migrate to the city for better studies).
Aligarh shines well on the road map of India. The Grand Trunk Road (or the better known as G. T. Road) passes through Aligarh. Aligarh is located on the crossing point of two famous rivers of North India, Yamuna and Ganga. The city has an average elevation of around 180 meters.
The city (like the rest of Uttar Pradesh) experiences hot climate. Winter arrives in the month of December and stays in the city till the month of January. Temperature during the winter season ranges from 15 degrees to 12.2 degree Celsius. Summer starts somewhere in the month of May and lasts till the end of June. Average temperature during the summer season is around 32 degree Celsius.
Hindi, Urdu and English of course, are three primary languages spoken in this city. Another famous language of Aligarh is Awadhi which is a mix of Khadi Boli and Urdu. This language is used by the people living in the Oudh area near Aligarh. Sufi poets like Amir Khusrau are said to be responsible for bringing in such languages to the city.
Mostly, the economy of Aligarh relies on agriculture. The manufacturing and processing of agricultural products is another business that is fast growing. The lock industry of Aligarh is famous in all of India and most adverts related to locks on the national level do include the brand name of Aligarh to boost sales. It was the year 1870 when Johnson & Co. became the first foreign industry to have launched a lock firm here in the city of Aligarh. Slowly many local and international firms established their offices in the city of Aligarh.
