San Pedro Sula has been a popular city in the country of Honduras, located in its north-western corner in the Sula Valley. With a population of more than 1,000,000 people, it is the second biggest city of the country and has been considered to be a major industrial center.

The dry season stretches from December to April and March and April are the driest and hottest months of the year. The city receives rain from May to November and August and September are the wettest months of the year.

Being one of the rapidly growing cities of Central America, it is surrounded by the Merendon Mountain range and banana plantations. The city is a major host for both business travelers and tourists offering a huge range of activities, excellent restaurants and hotels, sites and great shopping opportunities. Because of the large number of factories, businesses and plantations in and around the city, San Pedro Sula is also known as the country’s industrial capital. Due to its proximity to Guatemala, Belize and the Caribbean coast, the city acts as a the chief transportation hub for the entire country, while it economically maintains its base in the light industry as well as the business production of bananas, coffee, sugar cane, forestry, tobacco and beef.

The airport serves the city as it is located only around 15 minutes away from the center of the city. Several international and domestic air companies connect the city to other places including Atlanta, New York City, New Orleans, Houston, Miami and Panama City. The airport is busiest airport of Honduras and handles more than 600,000 commuters every year. Gran Central has been the central bus station of the city located only at a short distance from its downtown area providing bus routes for nearly all destinations in Honduras and also to international destinations. Traveling by bus is an affordable and easy way for moving around Honduras and the bus station also acts as a food court and shopping center. A good system of public transport is available in the city which includes city buses that run throughout the city. The smaller buses or mini vans are called “rapiditos” which offer faster service as compared to taxis and buses. Taxis in the city are white and because of their fleet numbers, it is not difficult to find them in any part of the city. “Colectivos” are taxis which serve specific routes and take different passengers who share the trip’s cost.
