Katerini Travel Guide, Greece
Paralia Katerini resort-Greece
The resort lies in the Pieria region, north of Mount Olimp, 8 km from Katerini town and 75 km from Salonic. There are many resorts in the Pieria region called Paralia which actually means beach in Greek, but Paralia Katerini is quite special being considered the pearl of the northern region. It is a clean and fairly quiet resort distinguishing itself by beauty and serenity but you can also find a lively nightlife. Its neighbor Olympic Beach is rather more exquisite but together they make a perfect combination of agitation and tranquility. Paralia is cheaper than Olympic Beach and I could say one of the cheapest resorts in Greece offering great services. The goods bought at different shops might not be all of high quality but the services are of good quality.
Climate
Being close to Mount Olymp, the resort has a pleasant climate with fresh air
The beauty of the beaches and its surroundings with the mountains in the background gives any visitor a special feeling of being in a place loved even by gods. The landscape looks like the one in fairytales. You have the luxury of long and wide beaches with gold sand and crystal clear waters,
Activities
There are plenty of water sports to be practiced: swimming, scuba diving offering great views of the underwater world full of colored fish.
Children have a special place to go to called ““Luna Park” where they can have fun on different water slides.
Accommodation
There are plenty of hotels large or small, villas and apartments giving visitors a cozy feel. If you want average accommodation you should choose a three star hotel and if you want more than go for the for star one. Make sure they have air conditioning and check if you have to pay for it separately.
Amenities
There are plenty of supermarkets, supermarkets, shops: souvenir shops, fur shops and jewelry shops; restaurants, taverns, clubs bars, discos. You can bargain in many of the shops as there is always the owner plus an assistant. Fur coats can come extremely cheap if you know how to bargain.
You will find restaurants at every step with large terraces and the smell of fresh food coming from the kitchens attracting the passer by. The food in most of them is delicious and at a good price. Maybe this is why you should not choose an all inclusive package, this way you can try all the different restaurants.
Nightlife
You can spend your night shopping, dancing in one of the discos or tasting some delicious cocktails in one of the bars. Spending your night in a club might be somehow expensive reaching up to 100 euros.
Surrounding area
Because there aren’t many attractions in Paralia you should plan some trips to the great attraction in the area. The location of the resort permits visiting other important sights that are quite close. You can’t miss Katerini town located only 4 km away, perfect for endless shopping. You can take a bus near the church that will take you to the centre of the town. You can even get off on the way to go to a hypermarket called Champions where you can get real good prices. If you are willing to go a longer way, Salonic is 70 km away but it is well worth the trip. Then you can have a one day trip to Athens or to Halkidiki peninsula, but a trip to Athens takes too long and you won’t see much unless you spend a night there and visit the second day too. Trips to Skiathos and Meteora are also common and worthwhile even it will take you 12 hours.
