Uhldingen-muhlhofen Sights and Landmarks Guide, Germany

The city of Uhldingen-Mühlhofen hasnt got so many things to offer like the bigger cities, but also there is much you can take a look at.

The first place you should take a look at is the "Pfahlbautenmuseum Unteruhldingen. It´s an open air Museum, where you can see originally reconstructed buildings from the Stone and Bronze ages. Also archeaological findigs are präsented here and explained with signs, also for children. The first reconstructions were already from 1922, based on findings at the Federsee and the moorland of Bad Schussenried. 1996a newmusem building was contructed, with exhibiton rooms and an archive. From the beginning till now the open air museum has got 23 reconstructed buildings, that are really worth a look.

Another interesting thing is the house of reptiles. It was founded in 1975 by the Kissers in Unteruhldingen and has got the recognition of the state. You can see there living snakes, reptiles and spyders. At first it was located in the old school house and later in abbuilding at Sipplingen. At 2005, a new building was constructed near the edeg of Uhldingen. Regarding the animals, the house of reptiles was honoured for exemplary care about the animals.

On the area of Uhldingen lies the pilgrimage church of Birnau, built from 1746 till 1759 for the monastery of Salem, by Peter Thumb. Its style is barock, the equipment is marvellous Rokoko by Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer. It´s worth a look.

The baroque Palace Maurach lies near to the pilgrimage church, and was formerly used from the monastery as sommer residence. Today its conference center.

The small church St. Martin has got an gotic Apsis from the 15th century and a main building from 1700.The oldest part ranges from the 12th century.

The county chapel from Unteruhldingen originates from 1505. There are still wooden figures from 1505 and a baroque altar.

In Oberuhldingen is also a chapel from the 16th century, the St. Wolfgangs Kapelle. It was rearranged in baroque style in 1711 by the abbot Stephan I., Salem.
