Bonn Sights and Landmarks Guide, Germany
Bonn, the capital of Germany is one of the best places to spend your vacation in Europe. This modern town around the same age of the city of Cologne is one of the most bustling towns of Germany with ample avenues of entertainment. The city has seen great developments in last 20 years. Bonn served as the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990. After the Reunification of Germany, Berlin was crowned the capital.
Bonn Sights: Architectural sights
Bonn sights portray fabulous architectural legacy of the past. One of the most admired sights is the Doppelkirche Schwarzrheindorf. This magnificent construction is actually a cathedral that is an excellent exemplar of Romanesque architecture. Another attraction in Bonn is the famous Münster Basilica. The place has graves of two Roman soldiers that are regarded as saints of the city. The basilica is a perfect blend of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. Near by is the Beethoven Monument that was constructed in 1845.
The marble decorated Kreuzbergkirche is another piece of great construction in Bonn. The church stands here since 1627 but most of the part of the church had to be renovated a few decades back. The marvelous holy steps of the cathedral were designed by the famous builder Balthasar Neumann. The Old Town Hall and the Parliament building are more examples of fine architectural sense.

Bonn sights offer ample avenues to get close to the traditions and culture of the town. The museums and art galleries in the town let you know the city better. One of the most adored places for art is the Frauenmuseum in the Nordstadt. The specialty of the museum is that it showcases art work by women artists. Then there is the Deutsches Museum Bonn. This museum takes you on a rollercoaster ride of technological history. Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland takes you back in times of World War II.
Then there is the very special Zoological Research Museum and Alexander Koenig Museum that is one of the biggest museums dedicated to natural history. It has great exhibits related to wildlife and extinct species.
The house of the famous Beethoven named as the Beethovenhaus has been converted to a museum. It also has a concert hall that holds great concerts all the year round.
Bonn Sights: Miscellaneous attractions
Apart from great museums and galleries, there is lot more to explore in this beautiful town. Bonn hosts a Summer Festival that is about five months long (May to September.) If you plan your travel during this festival, you can pamper yourself with great theater, dance, music and lot more. Another attraction for tourists is the three week International Beethoven Festival held during September-October every year. There are great concerts dedicated to Beethoven along with fabulous performances from renowned artists from all over the world. The venue is mostly the Beethoven House and the Beethoven Hall.
