Kuopio, Finland - Overview 

A very beautiful city in eastern portion of Finland, Kuopio stands as one of the well-loved cities in the country. The city was established way back in 1653 and quickly grew as a city with people of remarkable character. Because of its natural setting and culture, it quickly became a very popular city in Finland.  

The main attraction of the city is Lake Kallavesi. This body of water literally surrounds the city. The lake is a major source of work for most people in Kuopio and because of the lake; the city is very popular during summertime as people could enjoy the peaceful waters as well as its nightlife. But don’t count out the city just yet during winter season. Kuopio is home for of an international ski jumping competition held every winter.  

Tourists will easily notice the number of schools in Kuopio. The city is a very popular center of education especially for medical studies. Health related research facilities are also common in the city and in schools. The reason for this is that the eastern portion of the country has a significant number of health problems. But that does not hamper the spirit of the locals. One of the reasons why the city is very popular in Finland is its people. The locals of Kuopio are known for being lively, fun to be with and always on the lighter side of life. A joke or two will always be a part of the conversation.  

Aside from its people, the cultural traditions and celebrations is never lacking in Kuopio. In any given season, the city will always have festivals that are either related to the season or just to celebrate their culture. During winters, the Finland Ice Marathon should never be missed and during the harvest season, the Kuopio Wine Festival is always a reason for tourists to come visit the area.  

As the city was established mid-17th century, the structures of the city are very impressive. There are government structures that are more than a century old and still keep their original structure. Museums abound in the city as each of these museums aim to present the city’s history and beauty to the tourists and the locals alike. The modern structures of the city are also very impressive especially the massive business establishments that seemed to be found everywhere in the city.
