The city of Santo Domingo (also famous by the name of Santo Domingo de Guzmán) happens to be the capital city for the Dominican Republic. The city of Santo Domingo is situated somewhere around Caribbean Sea and the River Ozama is located in its proximity too.
The annual average temperature for the city of Santo Domingo is around 25 degrees Celsius. It is the presence of tropical trade winds help regulate the temperature. That is why the city of Santo Domingo experiences little differences in temperature throughout the year.
The months of July and August happen to be the hottest months while the months of December and January are the coldest when compared to other months of the year. The city of Santo Domingo faces many numbers of hurricanes due to its location which is in the Caribbean Sea. It was the year 1930 when a sever hurricane named San Zenon hit the city of Santo Domingo and caused a lot of damages.
The huge River Ozama flows right through the city and empties into the Caribbean Sea. It was the River Ozama which gifted the city with a port that soon became the busiest port in the country.
The population for the city of Santo Domingo was over 2 million as per the census of 2003. Later on, as per the census of 2006 the population for the city of Santo Domingo was around 2.25 million inhabitants. The jump in population in the span of 3 years was due to the growing economical importance. The city of Santo Domingo is also the largest city in terms of population when compared to other cities in the country.
The metropolitan region of Santo Domingo is divided into four different sections to make the administration of the city easier.
