Aalborg is widely known as the “Little Paris of the North” and the city that never sleeps. This city that never sleeps is truly lively during the night. It also offers different sight for its visitors who want to take tours during the day.
Aalborg City offers several sights such as natural parks, amusement parks, zoos, museums, and historic sites for its local and foreign tourists. The Aalborg Zoo that is considered as one of Scandinavia’s largest zoos and the Tivoliland amusement park are the best destinations that offer unforgettable excitement for kids and the young at heart.
The city also has several annual events and festivals such as Aalborg Jazz and Blues Festival, Youth Games, open-air concerts, and carnival parades. The Lindholm Hoje Museum is also a must-see destination for a real Viking experience. The Vikings who have settled in Aalborg more than 1300 years ago have left one of their very important remnants that are still visible today, the series of Viking grave sites that were set with stones.
For guided tours around the city, the visitors can go to the Aalborg Distilleries that offer tours for visitors to see the process of making the best wines and spirits. Visitors can take samples of the products of the distillery before going to the Aquavit Museum just nearby.
The famous museums in Aalborg include the Garrison Museum, Aalborg Historical Museum, and the Aalborg Maritime Museum. Other tourist destinations in Aalborg are the Aalborg Tower that offers a sights of the entire city, the Aalborghus Castle, the Freilev Church, and other famous sculptures such as the girl with a goose and the Cymbrian Bull on the streets of Vestrebo.
The Herb Garden also offers a relaxing place to walk and have a picnic. The center of Aalborg is set in an old market town that has several ancient buildings including the 1624 Jens Bang’s house. The Budolfi Cathedral and the Monastery of the Holy Ghost—now the Aalborg Monastery are just some of the highlights of the ancient architectural works that currently serve as the city’s historic and artistic tourist destinations. The city also has several restaurants and shopping centers along its major tourist destinations. Lining along the streets of the city are the specialty shops such as jewelers, watchmakers, shoe shops, bookshops, etc.
Most of the sights in Aalborg are available throughout the year but most of the best attractions of the city are best offered during summer. It is the time when most of the city festivals seem restless.
