At present, Olomouc is a city with over a hundred thousand residents and can be found at the center of the Hani region. Since the early centuries, it has been considered as one of the most significant cities of Moravia. Recently, Olomouc was designated as a country seat. This made the city a center of society, economy and culture. Olomouc’s significant landmarks include religious sites, sculptures, and castles. These mark the city’s lushness in terms of culture, arts and history. Also, these attractions are closely compared to Vienna Sights.
The Holy Trinity Column. This column is famous in Central Europe as the biggest set of Baroque statues contained in the construction of one sculptural group. A chapel can be found at the foot of the column while the column itself is surrounded with 18 statues of saints.
Hradisko Monastery. At present, the ground where the monastery is found is known as the Hana Escorial because of its architectural design. The monastery is a mix of both Italian Mannerism and Baroque architecture. The ceiling fresco, which has the “Jesus feeding 5000” theme, found inside the monastery was painted by Paul Troger.
Olomouc Sights – Museums
Almost all cities and towns throughout the world give importance to the existence of galleries and museums. Olomouc is no different. A number of spectacular museums and galleries can be found in the city. Visitors to these places will find themselves engrossed with the artworks exhibited.
Archdiocesan Museum. This museum is found on Wenceslas Square in the houses of the past chapter deanery. All year-round exhibits found in the museum are about the religious culture of the Archdiocese of Olomouc. The museum also has an excellent portrait gallery of works collected since the 1500s.
Natural Science Museum. This museum used to be the Church of St. Claire. The construction of the church is of Baroque architecture and the last one of its kind ordered by the Church in Olomouc. However, since 1951, the structure served as the house of many artifacts about natural science.
Olomouc Sights – Sports and Recreation
The city of Olomouc is not just celebrated for its significant landmarks but also for sports and recreational sites. Tourists are very fond of these places of leisure and find themselves having fun and enjoying Olomouc Sights.
Historic Parks of Olomouc. This is a series of parks connecting the heart of history and the contemporary suburban areas of the city. It includes the Bezruc Park, which is a rose and botanical garden. The Smetana Park, with an exhibition ground and palm greenhouse, is also a part of this site. The last park included is a children’s playground known as Cech Garden.
Hlubocky Ski Area. The area can be found 10 kilometers from the city center. This site is ideal for everyone including families with children. Hlubocky Ski Area offers snowboard and ski school, rental equipment for skiing and refreshments for visitors.
