Sibenik Sights and Landmarks Guide, Croatia
Sibenik is a large Croatian city where you will always find things to do and see. Accommodation is excellent as you have many restored hotels at your disposal while fun is guaranteed by the many clubs and discos.
Nature lovers really have a lot to see from great views of the sea to national parks, lakes and rivers.
Sibenik is also a bustling port with an amazing bay and watching the activity going on is one of the sightseeing options.
The narrow streets flanked by rocky buildings remind you of other northern Italian cities.
Sibenik’s cathedral is the central focus of any visit in the city. It is an important site not only for the people of Sibenik but for the whole world since it is on the list of Unesco World Heritage Sites. The cathedral was raised using local materials namely lime stone and marble and also local architects developed the plan.
There are also other churches to be visited like the St. Barbara church, St. Fran church or St. Jacov church which will lead you to another important attraction of Sibenik: the Town Hall which is opposite the church. This Renaissance building dates back to the 16th century and it has only 2 floors.
St Anne’s Fortress is also among the attractions. People come here to get a view of the city as there is not much to see in the fortress. Its greatness imposes more from afar.
The city does not lack islands and islets like the islet of Visovac and the Krka National Park is also nearby enchanting visitors with waterfalls like Krka Waterfalls or Skradinski buk. The national park, which is only 16 km away, also boasts gorges and traces of ancient settlements. You can visit the park by boat but you can also enter the park with your car.
Children will have a great time if they happen to be in the city during the International Child's Festival which is held during the end of June and beginning of July. The atmosphere is lightened up by musicians, puppeteers and other artists. Many of the events are held on the streets but there are also some held at the theatre.
There are other festival held throughout the summer much to the visitor’s delight. One is the Day of St. James celebrated on 25th July
