Plitvice travel guide- How to Get There and Get Around
From Zagreb, which is only a few km away, follow the sign to Plitvice and you will be there in about an hour by car. If you come from Rijeka there are 58 miles to Plitvice. Funny thing is that it is kind of difficult to tell where the entrance to the park is as the signs mark the fact that you have arrived at Plitvice but there are quite a few roads to the left and right and most of them lead to private accommodation houses. What you have to find is Hotel Bellevue and you have to ask about the entrance to the park, it’s about 300 m from the hotel. You can exchange your currency at the bank located near the hotel.
Plitvice travel guide- Fees and Rules
You have to buy a ticket at the entrance which is around 15 Euros per person. Kids under 7 do not have to pay. Groups get a reduction. Nobody stays at the entrance to check if you have bought a ticket or not but common sense works well and everybody buys one. You can choose to do different tours and you can use the boat or the bus that is included in the price. The ticket is valid for the whole day and you can go in and out as many times as you want and hop on and off the boat or bus. If you do a tour and you feel like you would want or have time left to do another one you are free to do it.
There are a few tours you can do according to the time you want to spend in the park. There is a 2 or 3 hour tour a 4/5 hour tour, a 5/6 hour tour and a tour for groups. You can choose a tour where you have less walking or more to do. Families with children can choose the easy tour, but keep in mind that you can take a baby carriage with you. It is practical and many parents opt for it as all the pathways are accessible except the parts with the stairs.
Plitvice travel guide-Opening hours
The park is opened from 9 in the morning till 8 in the evening when the last bus and boat departs. So you have to make sure to be in time at the station if you do not want to come on foot all the way to the exit.
Plitvice travel guide-From a Tourist’s Point of View
The first time you hear about the Plitvice Lakes National Park is either from a friend who visited it or you might have read a Plitvice travel guide on the internet, thing is that either way you will be impressed, but your first personal contact with the park and its wonderful lakes and waterfalls does not even come close to the idea you might have had. Even if you are a passionate traveller and have seen a few lakes and waterfalls, what you will see here is unique. People from all over the world come to visit it and you will find yourself surrounded by hundreds of people who speak different languages.
The park is accessible to everyone old and young, fit or less fit as there are paths and walkways that allow you to walk over the water and on the edge of the lakes. The paths are manmade but in a way that makes them fit perfectly with the surroundings.
The lakes are situated at different levels and fall into one another creating a magnificent sight to behold.
Plitvice travel guide-Accommodation
There are different types of accommodation available and even if there are no 5 star hotels, there are only a few 3 stars hotels, there are plenty of villas, pensions, private houses and even camping sites where you can be accommodated. People usually stay for one night as most of them stop over on their way to the Croatian seaside, so even if you do not book anything in advance you will definitely find a room.
From the many options you have the best are the private houses, the hotel are either expensive for some or too “cold” for others, the camping is way too expensive for what it has to offer, it is more expensive than the private houses! So choosing to stay in a private house is by far the best choice. There is a nice bunch of houses 2 km away from the park and the houses are numbered in chronological order so you can easily find your way back. Among them stands out house nr 20/1 whose owner is a kind lady that does everything for her guests to feel welcomed. You might even buy a souvenir as she does nice paintings of the park. You might also buy souvenirs at P 2 where the boat leaves you to do tour F(the different tours marked by letters).
When in Croatia you must definitely visit this park!
