Liberia Nightlife, Costa Rica

 Liberia, Costa Rica has great nightlife, but you just need to search a little to find it.  As more and more professionals and students move to the city, there are new clubs and bars opening up quickly.  Here are a couple of the nightlife places that seem to come highly recommended.

Discotheque Kuru is located just outside of Liberia and almost any taxi can get you there and back to your hotel.  This dance hall offers meringue, salsa, and contemporary Latin music, as well as friendly locals and cheap beer.  There are also some other clubs and bars located close by.

Elements are one of the newest hot spots in Liberia, with plush sofas and an attentive staff.  The theme of this club is one of energy and the four sources of such:  air, fire, water, and earth.  Casa Pueblo is located on the old Calle Real also has sofa, scattered tables and eclectic décor.  There is a relaxed atmosphere here, with Indie music to complete the ambiance.

Bar Lib is an open air club located in the new Santa Rosa Mall.  It sits on the second story and allows everyone to see in and out as they listen to Costa Rican music groups and retro type music.

For a great restaurant to try before heading out the night, go to La Reses.  Somewhat formal, it has excellent service and truly amazing food.  It is also one of the few restaurants that have air conditioning.

 Las Tinajas, is located across from the Cathedral.  It’s a local favorite.  For less than four dollars, you can get the casados, with beans, rice, salad, and fried plantains.  It’s also a great place to people watch with a banana milkshake.

A note to those traveling around Easter:  Alcohol sales are prohibited the Thursday before and all day of Good Friday.
